Outdoor Christmas Decorations for Large Spaces

October 20th, 2010

webcam2 offline 352x240 Outdoor Christmas Decorations for Large SpacesPutting together an outdoor Christmas decoration display for the average house or yard is a task a number of homeowners undertake and do a great job of. Decorating the average city lot a homeowner can put on quite a show at Christmas time, in fact one of our favorite displays is the one at komar.org (Alek’s Christmas Decorations). They have a fairly grand Christmas display, but it is also controlled in that it is close to the road and their lot is of limited size.

If your putting together an outdoor Christmas decoration display for a large lot or for a home or business that is some distance from the road, you have a bit more of a challenge. On of the main challenges is finding something that is large enough to be seen from a distance, that just isn’t the typical stuff that you find at your local Walmart or Kmart. If you decide to go with the local big box retailer for outdoor Christmas decorations your project is likely to look like lots of little decorations far away, you will end up running lots of extension cords for something that will look more like Santa crashed on your lawn that something recognizable. Couple that with people driving up your driveway to get a better look and you will likely need to find a source for some large outdoor Christmas decorations.

In addition, lots of vendors carry commercial trees that come in a range of sizes, anywhere from 8 feet to 25 fSTL STL WB Outdoor Christmas Decorations for Large Spaceseet tall.  This makes a perfect decoration that can be used over and over every year, verses having to get your buddy over with the boom truck (twice), to put lights on the pine trees in your yard – if you have a pine tree that is.  We found a large selection of commercial trees online at eDecorSource along with some of the larger decorations mentioned earlier in this article.

Christmas & Seasonal Decorations Sales Report

October 7th, 2010

We got news  the 2010 update for the Christmas and Seasonal Decorations sales was put out this morning  by Unity Marketing.  Research for this marketing is conducted with a survey of Christmas decorations buyers in 2008 and 2009.  The goal of the study was to document the needs, desires and passions of consumers purchasing decorations in the past year.  This study includes:

  • Market Demographics
  • How People Decorate for Each Holiday and the Trends in Decorating Traditions
  • Special Investigation: Christmas Decorating Traditions and Purchases
  • Special Investigation:  How the Current Economic Crisis in Impacting the Decorations Shopper and the Trends on Future Spending on Decorations
  • Other Holiday Decorations Purchased and Amount Spent by Holiday
  • Where Holiday Decorations Were Bought
  • What Shopping Experiences Decorations Shoppers Valued
  • Special Investigation:  Where They Get Decorating Inspiration
  • Attitudes about Holiday Decorating and Purchasing

Of course we here at Christmas Decor Source were real excited that maybe we would get some real quantifiable information, rather than conjecture, but it turns out that conjecture is much cheaper than the $3500.00 that Unity wants for the report so we will go with that.

The Big News from Conjecture

eDecorSource Print Catalog

The big news that buyers have this season is that prices are dropping on decorations.  Tom Brady, owner of eDecorSource.com, an online reseller of commercial Christmas decorations says “Prices have dropped back to the 1990′s in some cases for commercial decor, in fact that was the leader on our printed catalog this year“.  Tom went onto say that the recession over the last 18 months reduced sales and that services like his have diversified to help make up the difference and weather the economy.

Other Decorating …

LED lighting in holiday light displays is readily available on most every piece, however consumers are not really ready to shell out the additional money to do the upgrades so real deals are in traditional incandescent holiday lighting.

There are lots of new products that have hit the market, so if your tired of the same old hum drum Christmas decorations – go shopping.

Animated and large displays are getting bigger than ever, it seems that everyone wants a distraction at Christmastime.  Information readily available on the Internet also makes it much easier to build a fantastic light display.

Great Christmas Decorator? – Make a Job Out of It

October 6th, 2010

Isn’t it your favorite activity – putting up and taking down Christmas decorations?  Well maybe putting them up isn’t quite as bad as taking them down. At least in our part of the country, when Christmas is over the temperature plummets to something below zero and stays there till what seems like Easter.installation td2 Great Christmas Decorator? Make a Job Out of It

Believe it or not some people like decorating for Christmas and have made quite a business out of it and you can find everything from decorators who will take care of your home to genuine companies that take care of all of the commercial decorations in town.  These are the people constantly getting compliments on their decorating skills  – when I decorate, most people just want to sign my cast.   Personally, I like the bucket truck idea and I like it better that someone else is in the bucket truck.

So anyway if your any good at it, check out this article from April Bowles over at suite101.com.  How to Start a Holiday Decorating Business In the article April tells you all about the business aspects of getting started on a big or a small basis.  It’s always great to have a bucket truck though.
